The corn crop
continued
A closer look at Olof feeding cornstalks into the shredder, while another person brings another shock of corn to him.
This is Olof Eckberg standing atop a large pile of shredded corn. Snow on the wagon wheels in the foreground show that this must be in late Fall.
The other way of harvesting the corn was to pick it by hand. Wagons were taken into the cornfields and the farmers would walk along it, pulling off the ears of corn and throwing them into the wagon. The far side of the wagon had higher siding. This was the "bang board." The corn pickers would throw the the ears of corn up into the wagon, bouncing off the "bang board," allowing them to drop into the wagon. Alma Eckberg sits on a wagon full of ears of corn, after the harvest.
