Daniel was the second son born to Roland and Bernice Pettit. He was born in Canton, Illinois on April 23, 1969. He went to the schools in Canton and graduated from Canton High School in 1987, where he was the Student Council President. He continued his education at Augustana College (Illinois) and was student government president, graduating in 1991.
After college Dan was employed in the office of the Administration for Urban Development in Des Moines, Iowa. He was known to be a very compassionate Christian. When his father offered him a trip to anywhere he wanted to go, Dan chose to go to Poland to work with Habitat For Humanity in 1998.
Dan's hobbies included tropical fish and he had many aquariums in which he raised angel fish.
Dan died in an automobile accident in Iowa in 1999.
