Delmar Richmond was the first child and only son of Vivan and Anna Richmond. He was born in Wyanet, Illinois, on December 28, 1934. He attended the grade school in Wyanet and was about to enter Wyanet High School when he died at the age of 13.
Delmar was a young businessman and was a carrier for the Kewanee Star-Courier, having had his own bank account to help keep track of his business. He was also very involved in the Boy Scouts and was on a scout outing when he met his untimely death.
On July 5, 1948, Delmar and 15 other Wyanet boy scouts were on a trip to Camp Ki-Shau-Wau near Tonica, Illinois, when he apparently drowned in the Vermillion River while wading with friends. At the time of the tragedy his family was on vacation near Oblong, Illinois and could not be reached immediately to be told of Delmar's death; but word was finally gotten to them and they returned home to bury their son.
Delmar was buried in Forrest Hill Cemetery in Wyanet on July 9, 1948.
