An Album of Eckberg Farming Pictures

The Olof Eckberg family took a number of pictures of their farming activities in the mid-to-late 1920's. These pictures were probably taken while they were tenants on the J. Westbrook farm in Bureau County, Illinois, where they moved in 1921. They apparently remained on this farm until 1930 when the family moved to the P. Anderson farm.

These pictures were taken over a few month's to a few year's time frame, and include planting, tilling, harvesting and even Winter activities. When possible, all persons in the pictures have been identified. Any additional information and/or corrections would be appreciated.

The corn crop: through a year in planting, tilling and harvesting the corn crop; about 1925. A series of twentythree pictures.

Bringing in the oats in a series of twelve pictures from the Eckberg family album.

Making hay was an important activity on the farm too. It provided fodder for the livestock through the winter. In a series of three pictures we see the Eckbergs putting hay up in the mow.

Cutting wood was a major activity for the family in the fall, since the home was heated by wood burning stoves.

Beekeeping was also an activity of the Eckberg household.

In the winter other opportunities presented themselves to the family.

More pictures are coming soon!
