Forhallnings-bok
The first page of Olof's Forhallnings-bok gives his name, date and place of birth, and the information about him being accepted into sailor's training on January 1, 1896, as a third class seaman.
The next page tells his height in centimeters, his eye color (blue-gray) and his hair color (light brown). The page on the right records Olof's promotions during his five year career as a sailor.
The last two pages that are shown here show his training activities during almost three years at the sailors' training school; all his days, both on land ("i land") and at sea ("ombord") are accounted for, and are broken down by months ("man") and days ("dag"). The books shows that he spent many month at sea aboard the "Freja," the ship mentioned in the article about his model ship, the Oceana. The book shows he was permitted to leave in October 1898, at which time he began sailing for merchant mariners.
