Arrived here Tues. morning. It's really nice down here. We have nice barracks and the meals aren't so bad but they aren't as good as they were at Sheridan. We do a lot of drilling and a guy really can sleep. I'll be here for about 6 to 8 wks. and from here I don't know where we'll go. Kenneth

KENNETH ECKBERG
Wyanet--Kenneth O. Eckberg, 70, of Wyanet, died at 12:28 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, 1997 at St. Margaret's Hospital in Spring Valley.
Born Aug. 1, 1926 in Bureau Township to Olof and Ida M. (Almstrom) Eckberg, he married Mary O. Abell on Aug. 1, 1944. She died Oct. 5, 1987.
He served in the U. S. Army Air Corps during World War II in the Phillipine Islands.
He owned and operated Eckberg's Home Service in Wyanet for 45 years. He also farmed in rural Wyanet for 38 years. He had been Wyanet Township Road Commissioner for three years.
He was a member of the Bureau Valley Antique Club and the Wyanet Chamber of Commerce, and had been a director of the Sapp Memorial Library in Wyanet.
Surviving are a son, Robert of Dakota City, Iowa; a daughter, Linda Strader of rural Wyanet; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Harold of Walnut and Lester of rural Wyanet; and a sister, Anna Richmond of Wyanet.
He was also preceded in death by six brothers and a sister.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Johnson Memorial Home in Wyanet, with Rev. Marvin Claassen officiating. Burial will be in Forrest Hill Cemetery in Wyanet. Graveside military rites will be given by Wyanet V.F.W. Post 6634.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Wyanet Rescue Unit or Bureau Valley Antique Club.

Kenneth O. Eckberg, 70, of Wyanet, died at 12:28 p.m. Feb. 12, 1997 , in St. Margaret's Hospital in Spring Valley.
Services are 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the Johnson Memorial Home in Wyanet, with the Rev. Marvin Claassen officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery in Wyanet, with graveside military rites by the Wyanet Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6634.
Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.
