Bringing in the oats

Continued

The wagon in the center has been completely unloaded and the oats threshed. The chute blowing the straw into the mow is again seen on the left. Trucks receiving the oats are parked at left. It appears that some of the straw has been blown into a stack at right.

This is probably the same scene as above, but seen from a different perspective. Again the horse drawn wagon is seen in the center and the same two trucks are filling up with oats. The man in the truck at left appears to be using a shovel to spread out the oats as they are dumped into the bed of his vehicle. Power for the threshing operation is coming from a belt drive off an ancient tractor, at right.

In this picture a similar operation is being carried out, but probably later in the year, as there is snow on the ground. Two trucks are again lined up to pick up the threshed grain and a man in one of the trucks is distributing the load. Three men are standing in front of the belt drive which powers the thresher; the man at right is Olof Eckberg. In 1924 Olof sold almost 800 bushels of oats at 42 1/2 cents a bushel and kept another 1200 bushels for his own use in the coming year, for a total crop of 2000 bushels for the year.
