Midnight pudding

Sift three cups of flour with a level teaspoon soda and a saltspoon each of cinnamon and allspice. Mix with one cup of molasses, one cup of water, two teaspoons of melted butter and one cup of raisins and currants mixed, and dredged with flour. Steam three hours and serve with a creamy sauce.
