Cherry Leaf Pickles

1 doz. cucumbers
1 qt. cherry leaves
1 cup salt
1 cup vinegar
1 ½ gal. water

Pack cucumbers and leaves in jar & cover into brine made by pouring hot vinegar over salt and & adding water cold. Let stand 10 days. Then drain and wash well in cold water. Heat to boiling point in a weak brine of equal parts vinegar and water. Drain. Cut crosswise in one inch pieces. Then pack in jar and cover with a syrup make (sic) as follows:
1 ½ cup sugar
1 cup vinegar
2 tablespoons pickling spice
Boil this for 5 minutes & pour on pickles hot.
